GCP Associate Cloud Engineer

Course Overview

Let's talk about what you are going to learn in this course.

Hi, Welcome to ROI Training On Demand, Google Cloud Platform certification workshop.

My name is Rachel Strong, and I will be your host for this workshop. I am Global Project and Events Manager at ROI Training. I am responsible for planning and organizing Google Cloud training events worldwide and I help onboard new instructors.

Your instructors this week will be Mike Sutton and Doug Rehnstrom.

Mike runs his own technical consultancy in the New York City area. He’s been a technical trainer for many years and has been in IT since the early 1990s. He’s a certified Google Cloud Platform Professional Architect and Data Engineer, as well as an authorized GCP trainer. Mike went to college in San Diego and to make extra money he worked in Tijuana on weekends as a Lucha Libre wrestler. His ring name was El Gringo Gordito. Here he is in a match from 1984 about to be body slammed by one of the Machado brothers.

Doug is also GCP certified, and is an authorized Google Trainer. He’s been in IT longer than he’s willing to admit, and he’s been teaching IT for nearly 20 years. Doug is also our Director of Learning Solutions here at ROI Training, and is the author of this course. When not playing with computers Doug enjoys dirt bike racing, cave diving, and knitting sweaters for his poodles Noir and Bree.

ROI Training has been Google’s Training Partner of the Year for the last two years and has trained over 60,000 people in over 30 countries and 6 continents. ROI Training has the largest team of GCP Certified Instructors and has helped more IT Professionals achieve GCP Certification than any other partner.

Doug’s poodles Noir and Bree will appear in one of the modules in this course. When you find them, send us an email at poodles@roitraining.com. Let us know the module and slide you found them in, and we will send you a fabulous prize.

Hi, this is Doug Rehnstrom. Let’s talk about what you will learn in this course.

This course is designed to help prepare you for the GCP Associate Cloud Engineer certification exam.

We will cover some of the core principles of GCP, like how the APIs and services work and how you authenticate requests using IAM members and roles.

An important part of working with the cloud is automating as much as possible. There are different ways to automate the creation of resources on GCP, including using the CLI, using various language SDKs, and creating Deployment Manager templates. We will cover how to use these different tools.

You will learn about creating VPC networks and virtual machines on GCP.

We will enumerate the various services that can be used to save data on GCP and you will learn how and when to use these different storage services.

There are a number of different choices when deploying your applications to GCP. We will cover the most common ways. This includes using Google Kubernetes Engine.

We will also talk about deploying applications using App Engine, Google’s Platform as a Service product. And you will learn to deploy serverless applications using Cloud Functions.

Finally, we will cover how you can monitor, analyze, and debug your cloud resources using Stackdriver.

The Associate Cloud Engineer exam tests you on your experience using Google Cloud Platform. It tries to determine that you’ve actually deployed infrastructure on Google Cloud and have created services that run on the cloud.

Some of the exam content can be gained by attending training courses and reading the documentation. But primarily, the questions try to determine if you’ve really done work on GCP.

To prepare for the exam, you need to get some hands-on experience. This course includes labs and assignments to help you get started doing hands-on work.
